Halfbrick+ Opening Sequence

The Project

Dan Rice brought me on to bring Halfbrick’s characters to life for an opening sequence of their newest app, Halfbrick+. A colourful assortment of characters were all needed to jump, bite, fly, zap, roar, rip and much more. I’m only describing my role on the video but if you want to see how much more there was to bring this together, check out Dan’s website for the full scoop.

Halfbrick Character Animation

Animatic

The animatic was created by Dan Rice and the Halfbrick Team, informing all of the character work needed for the piece. Seeing this, alongside receiving character working files, informed the workflow I would need.

I was able to make decisions about how much detail I would need to give each character file so I only needed to make their files uniform (they came in different sizes, layering styles, and a mix of bitmap and vector due to being used for marketing material) and give the characters the detail they needed for only one to three actions.

Characters

Below is an isolated view of the eclectic cast that all came together for the bricolage teaser.

Some characters needed a few little additions, whilst others needed a bit of Photoshop surgery to make a quick puppet. Each had their own journey to be ready for Adobe After Effects or Adobe Animate but they all came together in the end.
